Family Ministries

familyministrywebGod created the family to be the foundational element of society. Scripture clearly presents the relationships and roles God desires in our families and our sincere desire at Buford is that each family will know and practice all that God has shared with us. God has delegated the responsibility for raising children to fathers and mothers (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Ephesians 6:4; II Timothy 1:3-5). While our church family can and should have a major influence for good, God will ultimately hold our parents accountable (Malachi 2:15).

Our family and youth ministry supports parents and engages families. Serving others, growing spiritually and connecting socially are our primary focus. We have deacons leading and members actively involved in specific ministries including the following:

  • Young Families Opportunities for our parents and families to grow spiritually and socially through service
  • Young Children (K-4th Grade) Helping our primary school children develop relationships with each other and God
  • Junior LeadersAcquainting our K-2 students with what it means to serve each other and our community
  • Teens Ministry focusing on our Middle and High School students led by our full-time Youth Minister (Also referred to as "BYG" - Buford Youth Group)
  • Leadership Development Developing practical leadership skills for Kingdom service in our young people using the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes Program
  • Vacation Bible School Annual event involving hundreds of our members and including our local community

Children's Ministry

childrensministrywebChildren are encouraged to learn about the Lord’s church, God’s love, His faithfulness, and the plan for our Salvation through the study of scripture and service!

We begin by learning about our Creator, God. Children are then engaged in study to learn about our Savior, Jesus. Congregational Worship, Singing and Prayer are integral to our children understanding that they are important to the Church that God instituted.

There are many opportunities for young children to get involved. Young boys can assist with picking up attendance cards. All children can participate in the Good Samaritan projects, which serve the community and the congregation. Even small hands can make a huge difference in the lives of another!

In all aspects of the Children’s Ministry we strive to serve God, Families and Our Community.

Junior Leaders

JrLDR logowebWe begin training our younger children, using the Junior Leaders program. As part of Junior Leaders, children in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade hear lessons about Godly leaders whose stories we find in the Bible. The children are also encouraged to learn the names of the books of the Bible and given the opportunity to serve others through Good Samaritan projects each month. The children in this group can also start training in areas like song leading, speech and public Bible reading.

Annually, Buford hosts the Leaderette Tea and Lads Celebration, where all participants can take a part and Buford members can show their support. By using the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes Junior Leaders program, those interested can also participate in the National Convention held each Spring, where congregations of the church of Christ gather for a unique and uplifting experience. The Junior Leaders can participate in non-competitive events and also display their artistic abilities by creating themed artwork in a variety of formats.

Buford Elders want to encourage our membership to become involved in this program through prayer, participating in the workshops, being a coordinator, and by using your talents in serving God. There are workshops that Parents and Youth can participate in together!

Vacation Bible School

VBSVacation Bible School (VBS) allows children and adults to explore the Word of God in a fun and exciting way. We use skits, games, crafts, songs and stories to bring the Bible alive over the course of a few nights. Each year a specific theme is picked to create a memorable summer experience for all. The goal of VBS is to teach God's love and spread the Gospel of Christ.

Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
