Dreaming With Jesus

Dreaming With Jesus

Do you ever sit back and dream?

I am a little bit of a dreamer. When I close my eyes, I can see amazing things happening in the potential future. Throughout life, I have found myself distracted by dreaming about what COULD be! This, of course, has often taken me out of the present moment. Like me, maybe you can relate to the comic strip below.

Many of us have dreams as aspirations. We go through life seeking those dreams for a bigger house, our children’s success, etc..

When did you last stop and dream about what you can do for Jesus and His church? Check out the words of Jesus in John 14:12–13

[12] “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. [13] Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

To me, these words are exhilarating. Jesus, the one who healed, loved, resurrected, and more, says to his followers, “If you believe in me and do the works that I do, you will do greater things than I have.”

I can’t comprehend this. This doesn’t seem real. So, I dream. I dream about what Jesus refers to when He says these things about the Buford church of Christ.

DREAM BREAK: Take a few minutes to talk with people around you/think about what Jesus could do in the Buford congregation in the next 5 years.

ALRIGHT. Evaluate the dream you just dreamed for this congregation. Does it fit the criteria Jesus laid out in John 14?

Here is what I am often guilty of: I dream big for my personal life, but when it comes to the Lord’s church, for some reason, I dream small. I dream in a way that keeps things as they are, with a little bit of growth sprinkled here and there.

Over the next 5 years, what if Buford church of Christ was a place that entirely devoted themselves to living out the call of Jesus and did whatever it took to follow Him in a way that allowed us to see tremendous growth. This would be beautiful!

As we go through life, it is worth distracting ourselves to dream if those dreams are for the Kingdom of God to grow!

The next time someone asks you, “What are you dreaming about,” be excited and ready to answer, “I am dreaming about what Jesus is doing through me!”

Wrap up this time by stopping and praying to God about blessing Buford with the wisdom to follow Jesus in a way that leads to growth in the coming years!
