God the Creator – Have You Met Him?

God the Creator – Have You Met Him?

GodtheCreator

Has there ever been a sight so beautiful it just takes your breath away? Perhaps you have gotten the chance to stand at the edge of the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, or overlook the Rocky Mountains, and those stunning sights have caused you to find yourself speechless; you have been unable to put the beauty you see into words.

In those moments, it is almost impossible to avoid breaking out in songs of praise to our God. He has created things that no human can create. He has created a masterpiece before us. His scripture puts it like this:

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” – Psalm 19:1

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” – Romans 1:20

Have we allowed ourselves to see the beauty of who God is through His creation, or do we go through life simply looking to get to the next day? What is incredibly beautiful about the world God created is He is constantly proving Himself to be a God full of wonders. He is a God who has created beautiful things.

I want you to imagine with me for just a moment that you know nothing about God or His personality. You don’t know a single thing about the law, the judges, David, the prophets, or anything in the New Testament. You open up the scripture to the very first Biblical writings, ready to learn the first thing you will ever know about God. The first line you read – “In the beginning, God created…” The first attribute of God that we are introduced to in the chronological story of scripture is God the creator. And in that passage, we see God create everything that we see today. Do you think God chose this first impression unintentionally, or do you think He intentionally wanted to show us how great His power is by making the statement, “everything that is beautiful, I have created it?”

If we go through life choosing to ignore the beautiful creation of God, we are missing a beautiful part of who He is. By initially communicating to us that He is a creator, God single-handedly identified that you and I can look to Him in every part of our lives for Him to create something beautiful out of nothing. Are we lost in sin? He, through Jesus Christ, creates someone entirely new. Are we fighting temptation? He creates a way of escape.

Today, what will you do to allow the creator God to take your breath away? What will you do to praise Him when He takes your breath away?

Here are a few ways we could challenge ourselves to give God glory when we see something beautiful in this world.

  1. Praise Him in song – even if you are alone. Admittedly, this could be awkward for you. If you aren’t someone who breaks out in song throughout life, your natural reaction probably isn’t to sing. However, we see Biblical examples of individuals singing praise to God to celebrate Him! Psalm 98:1 – “Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things!” It could be awkward to stand at the edge of the Grand Canyon and sing a song of praise, but what a beautiful way to acknowledge God’s greatness!
  2. Pray a prayer of thanksgiving and praise to God. The second you see something beautiful, stop and give God the glory. Use words like “My God, you are the creator of all beautiful things and the ruler of my life.” Give Him the credit for the greatness that is before you.
  3. Tell the people around you how great God is. If surrounded by people, give God all the credit for the beauty of what you see. You are then proclaiming the gospel message to those around you and setting a standard that all good things come from above.

Today, it is time we realize that creator God is active and present in our lives, and we need to honor and glorify Him for it! Next time you have your breath taken away, think about God.
