GO&DO! Ministry

GO&DO! Ministry

GOandDO_logo

The GO&DO! Ministry is intentionally designed to provide our members with realistic opportunities to evangelize and serve. This ministry challenges us to become the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. We become His hands through service and His feet through evangelism. The words of Jesus in Luke 10:37 inspired this ministry. After telling the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus says, “You GO and DO likewise.” All of us can go and do with the talents God has given us, and this ministry helps us discover and use those talents for Him. Our community will never care how much we know until they know how much we care! The GO&DO! Ministry helps the Buford church of Christ share the love of Jesus with those around us. Discover how you can become the hands and feet of Jesus today!

DOORKNOCKING

One of the ways we get outside of the walls of our church building and GO for the cause of Christ is doorknocking. There are many opportunities to visit neighborhoods in our community and show them we care enough about our faith to want to tell others about it. We have doorknocking days strategically placed throughout the year to take part in.

WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?

“Who Is My Neighbor?” helps empower our members to engage in personal evangelism in a realistic and effective way in our culture today. The detailed, methodical, and guided 10-step process in this ministry emboldens us to believe that personal evangelism is possible. This tool takes you from an introduction all the way through Bible study with the different “neighbors” we each have in our lives. Every year each member is challenged to bring ONE new soul to Christ.     View Ministry Details

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Every summer, we host a Vacation Bible School for our congregation and the community. We encourage our members to invite their friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers. Although this event is open to all ages, it is primarily tailored for children. We have Bible classes, songs, games, skits, crafts, snacks, and more. Another focus we have is providing the children with a service project so they can join in the GO&DO! Ministry.

SUMMER COOKOUT

Nothing beats a summer cookout! Every year we invite the neighborhoods closest to our Church building to join us in an afternoon of fellowship, fun, and food. Everyone is welcome and invited. We encourage our members to invite their friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers. This is an opportunity to show the community what it is like to be a part of our family at Buford. This event has led to numerous Bible studies and deeper spiritual connections.

HARVEST WEEKEND

The fundamental foundations of the faith are the milk of the Word (1 Peter 2:2; 1 Corinthians 3:2; Hebrews 5:12). However, for so many, this milk is hard to find. Harvest Weekend is specifically designed to provide lessons on why we believe what we believe to an audience who may have never heard it before. Lessons on the plan of salvation and the beauty of the Lord’s Church are what this weekend centers on. We encourage our members to invite their friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers (the harvest).

FALL FESTIVAL

This is another opportunity for us to fellowship as a congregation and community together. Combining our annual Trunk-N-Treat with fall festivities provides a great opportunity to invite our friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers. Meeting new families in the community leads to great connections with souls we would not have otherwise made. This event has led to many Bible studies and spiritual conversations with those in the community.

APPRECIATION GIFT BAGS

Our community is filled with unappreciated people. At Buford church of Christ, we want them to realize how appreciative we are of the service they give to each of us. So, we have an annual bag collection filled with specific treats and goodies to honor these special groups of our community while connecting them with our members. We then let our members distribute these gift bags to people they know in these groups (i.e. Healthcare Professionals, Teachers, First Responders, Postal and Delivery Workers, Sanitation Workers).

SWEEP THE HOOCH

This is an opportunity for us to partner with our community by cleaning up trash, garbage, debris, and litter alongside the Chattahoochee River. Sweep-The-Hooch is an event that started in 2010 and spans the majority of the state of Georgia. Our congregation serves specific sections of the river found in our area. The Buford church has collected thousands of pounds of waste through this event and, in doing so, we preserve the beauty of God’s glorious creation.

BCOC ON THE GO

Yard work or heavy lifting can be difficult or impossible for some people in our community. We pass numerous opportunities daily to help people in need. This is an annual effort to get us “On the Go” and assist members of our community with cleaning inside or outside of their homes. We encourage our members to seek out opportunities to serve people in need. This event has led to many Bible studies and souls being won for the cause of Christ.

BCOC CARES

Partnering with community leaders, this annual effort provides assistance to our community through a specific program, event, or need. We want the community and its leaders to know the Buford church of Christ is a place they can trust to find loving, mindful, and helpful people who truly care. People pass our church building every day. We want them to know when they pass us that we are a family who deeply cares about the community.

BACKPACK PROGRAM

Every student needs school supplies, but not every family can afford them. Especially for families with multiple children, school supplies can really set back a family’s finances. So, we have this annual effort to provide school supplies for these underprivileged students in our community. Students and families are shown that the Buford church of Christ is a place they can trust.

WINTER COAT DISTRIBUTION

Cold weather is unavoidable, but not everyone around us is able to acquire the adequate clothing needed to face these low temperatures. Durable winter coats can bring a financial strain on a family. So, we have this annual effort to partner with local schools and collect winter coats to be distributed to those in need. Providing for these physical needs opens doors for us to talk about their spiritual needs.
