In Matthew 6 Jesus instructed His audience to eliminate showmanship from their giving, prayers, and fasting then told them to give “in secret,” pray “in secret,” and fast “in secret” so that “you Father who sees in secret will…reward you openly” (6:4, 6, 18). From Jesus’ instructions not only do we learn about the importance of humility but we also learn about the omniscience of God. This is an important characteristic of God for us to acknowledge because we often live as though our sins are unknown to Him since they are unknown to the world. But David stated the truth on this matter when he wrote, “You know my foolishness; And my sins are not hidden from You” (Psalm 69:5).
