What Will We Be Doing?

Handout Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of…

Something’s Missing

Handout Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his…

Blind To Our Blindfolds

Handout Do you know what was the most frequently performed healing of Jesus? Curing blindness. There are at least 5 specific episodes in which Jesus resolved someone’s physical blindness (Matthew 9:27-31; 12:22; Mark 10:46-52; Luke 8:22-26; John 9:1-7) as well as references to Jesus healing numerous others who were blind (Matthew 15:30; Luke 7:21). Maybe the reason Jesus so frequently remedied physical blindness was to expose our need for better spiritual vision. 14 “And to the angel of the church in…

The Forever City

After the Hallelujah chorus praises God for who He is and what He has done (Revelation 19:1-2), attention turns to what God is going to do. Revelation chapters 19 through 22 address what God will do when Jesus returns, and these chapters do so by focusing on three primary metaphors: 1) The Best Ever Wedding, 2) The Last Ever Battle, and 3) The Forever City. Tonight we will explore the forever city to discover the description of heaven so that…

The Last Ever Battle

After the Hallelujah chorus praises God for who He is and what He has done (Revelation 19:1-2), attention turns to what God is going to do. Revelation chapters 19 through 22 address what God will do when Jesus returns, and these chapters do so by focusing on three primary metaphors: 1) The Best Ever Wedding, 2) The Last Ever Battle, and 3) The Forever City. Tonight we will explore the last ever battle to discover what has happened or will…

The Best Ever Wedding

After the Hallelujah chorus praises God for who He is and what He has done (Revelation 19:1-2), attention turns to what God is going to do. Revelation chapters 19 through 22 address what God will do when Jesus returns, and these chapters do so by focusing on three primary metaphors: 1) the best ever wedding, 2) the last ever battle, and 3) the forever city. Tonight we will explore the best ever wedding to identify who the Groom’s bride is…

The Shapes of Wrath

At least six times in Revelation 14-16, the wrath of God is referenced. For many of us, describing God as wrathful seems contradictory to other characteristics He possesses such as compassion and mercy. What we need to realize is that God’s wrath is an extension of His holiness. Revelation 14-16 reminds us of this truth as it presents some images that help to shape our understanding of God’s wrath. Sermon Handout REVELATION 14:6-16:21

Beauty and the Beasts

In Revelation 12 we were introduced to “a great red dragon” who represented Satan. In Revelation 13 we will be introduced to the agents through whom Satan exerted his evil influence. They are depicted as two beasts who are empowered by Satan and who are leading the persecution against Christians. While chapter 13 may depict Christians as helpless in comparison to these beasts, it does not depict them as hopeless. In fact, there are some beautiful truths hidden among the…

Dragon Con

In Revelation 12 we are introduced to “a great red dragon” who is identified as “that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world.” Up to this point in Revelation, Jesus has provided a behind the scenes look at how God is in control despite the fact that, at times, it seems as though Rome is in control. Now, Jesus pulls back the curtain a little further to reveal who is the ultimate…

Can I Get A Witness?

Revelation 1:3 said, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who KEEP what is written in it.” To this point in Revelation, there has not been a lot in the way of instruction for the church to “keep.” That is where the interlude between the sixth and seventh trumpet comes into play. From the vision of the little scroll, the measuring of the temple, and the two witnesses,…

When The Trumpet of the Lord Shall Sound

Back in Revelation 5, John saw the Lamb take a scroll, which was “sealed with seven seals” out of the hand of “the One who was seated on the throne.” Then, in Revelation 6, the Lamb began opening the seven seals. As the first six seals are opened, they reveal what the church would endure at the hands of Rome, but they also revealed that God is still in control. When the seventh seal is opened, it introduces us to…

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

In Revelation 4, the emphasis is on the throne, and that whole vision revealed that everything in all of creation is under the throne of God. In Revelation 5, the emphasis is on the Lamb, and that whole vision revealed that the Lamb is worthy of opening the scroll. In Revelation 6, the Lamb begins the process of opening the scroll and some seemingly strange events take place. However, we must not forget that this is a continuation of the…
