I am an Alien

I am an Alien

In 1 Peter 2:11-12, Peter wrote, “Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.” The author of Hebrews identified the heroes of faith as “strangers and exiles on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13). Why was this identity attributed to God’s elect, what do we learn about God’s expectation for His people from this identity, and how does it impact how we relate to the world around us?

Sermon Handout

1 PETER 2:10-12

10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”
